Ford GT: A Big Boy

American muscle cars are known for being big, bulky and brutally powerful. While they may not excel in the corners, there’s no better motor for cruising down the motorway. Over the years there have been many famous muscle cars such as the Mustang, Gran Torino and Charger, but none have become household names like the big ol’ Ford GT.

Originally created as a Le Mans racer, the GT40 won the legendary race 4 times in a row, and remains the only Yank to win the event. The pedigree of the GT40 is undeniable; it’s simply a brilliant car. In 2005 Ford created GT, a modern version of the classic supercar, and it became an instant hit.

The Ford GT is the perfect blend of classic design and up to date engineering. While it keeps hold of elements that made the old car a winner, it is certainly build for modern motoring. The behemoth of a 5.4 litre supercharged V8 engine produces 550 horse power that’ll take you from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The massive acceleration pins you head to the seat, and puts a big grin on your face!

Be under no illusions, the Ford GT is a big car. It’s almost 2 meters wide and weighs close to a ton. It may be tricky to navigate the tight streets of some British towns, but once you’re out on the open road there’s nothing better. Anyway, taking it slow through built up areas will only give people the chance to salivate over the stunning design. Ford offer a range of classic livery that hark back to the Le Mans days- just beautiful.

The best place to look for a cheap Ford GT is the internet. Buying second hand will save you a fortune, but you’ll have to move fast if you do come across one for sale. Remember you’re not the only bargain hunter out there, so get in there.

The Fort GT is simply a motoring legend. It’s everything you want from a big American muscle car and even more. So fire up the engine, let your ears bleed and smile until your face hurts!
